How to craft a social media plan

Now that you’ve created dynamic content to promote your island, here are some best practices for finding and connecting with your audience on social media.

Social Strategy

Use a phased approach to generate interest in your island. You could start with teaser posts, followed by behind-the-scenes content, and finally, a countdown to the launch. Remember to be authentic and focus on what makes your island unique and attention-grabbing to players.

TIP: Video content generally performs better than static imagery so use your trailer or gameplay capture where you can!

Think about where your audience is using social media. For example, many Fortnite developers have gained virality for their islands on TikTok. Show your players what they want, where they’re already online.

Channel-specific approach

Customize your content for each social media channel to maximize engagement. Each link below takes you directly to the platform-specific specs:

  • Instagram: Use eye-catching images and short videos of the island’s unique features on Stories (15 seconds per segment) and Reels (15-30 seconds).
  • X: Share quick updates and engage in conversations with hashtags like #CreatedinFortnite, #UEFN, or #FindItInFortnite. Keep videos between 15-45 seconds for optimal engagement.
  • TikTok: Create short, entertaining clips (15-30 seconds) showcasing exciting gameplay moments.

Voice and tone

Remember that your personal brand is deeply connected with your work as a developer in Fortnite. Ensure that anything you share on your personal social channels supports and doesn’t interfere with the marketing efforts for your islands.

Setting up your profile

  • Social Media Accounts: If you plan to keep your island up long-term, create social media accounts for your game. This helps players find your game and get updates easily. Keep your usernames consistent across platforms, ideally matching your game name. Different names can make it hard for people to find you.
  • Avatar and Cover Photo: Choose images that represent your game.
  • Bio: Include comprehensive information — what your game does, links to your other social media profiles, your Profile Page, etc.
