It’s almost time! The first of three tournaments in 2022 for the Women of the eRena invitational Series (WOTE) Featuring Fortnite is taking place this Sunday, April 10 at 5 PM ET. With a grand prize of $75,000 on the line, and teams set to play this tournament in the all-new Fortnite Zero Build, it’ll be anyone’s game this weekend!
We spoke with competitors EyaPixie, KeepUpRadio, Manteiga, and ONE_shot_GURL about how they chose their teammates, what they do to get hyped before playing Fortnite, and more:
Getting To Know The Women Of The eRena
How did you get started in your journey as a creator?
EyaPixie: Growing up I always played video games with my family! I played anything ranging from PlayStation to Nintendo. One day I was browsing the Fortnite category on Twitch and I came across a streamer, Alixxa, whose message was, “Be kinder than you feel.” I felt so incredibly inspired by her community, enthusiasm, and great vibes, and I knew this was what I wanted to be a part of. My first stream ever was in September of 2020, and by December of that year, I had reached 1K following on Twitch. That is when I knew I wanted to become a content creator and pursue streaming with everything I had to offer!
KeepUpRadio: I’ve been playing video games for as long as I can remember and I started streaming in February 2021! When I started to have success on TikTok I decided the next step for me would be streaming and I love it so much! It’s a great way to connect with my Keeper Community while discussing and playing a game we all love, Fortnite!
You’re playing in WOTE Featuring Fortnite with your chosen team of trios. How did you come about choosing your teammates?
ONE_shot_GURL: I decided to play in this tourney because I thought it would be a great opportunity to meet new people, so I sent out a tweet that I was looking for teammates. I had a bunch of replies, so I went through each one and looked at their gameplay. Everyone was so talented and had great vibes so it was really, really hard to choose, but eventually, I settled on my current teammates Brittin and Olivia. They're awesome!
EyaPixie: When it came to picking teammates, I knew that I wanted to find women that deserve more exposure. I knew of one teammate, Caroline, through mutuals and watched her compete in FNCS and make it past opens. I met my other teammate, Ells, through Caroline and all it took was one clip from Ells’s streams to know that she was very talented. In the short time I’ve been playing with them I’ve learned more about their passion for competition and drive to be the best at the game.
Do you have a pre-stream routine or ritual? Will you be doing anything special to get hyped for WOTE Featuring Fortnite?
Manteiga: My routine is to watch some funny videos. It gets me in the right mood and starts my streams off right. My number one goal with all my content is to make someone else smile!
KeepUpRadio: Before I stream I listen to my song Tilted Tower Dance (Go Tilted) on loop while I get ready and drink water. I will definitely be listening to this leading up to the WOTE Featuring Fortnite event!
Everyone has had at least one, memorable moment while playing video games. What was that special moment for you with Fortnite?
EyaPixie: Being invited to Twitch Rivals where I competed with some of the best gamers and content creators on the platform was a very special moment for me. It was only one hour until the tournament, and I was hosting a watch party with my community, when I got a DM asking if I would like to play instead. It’s been one of my goals to be personally invited as a Captain for such an incredible opportunity.
Manteiga: The Astronomical event in Fortnite was my memorable moment. I love listening to trap and hip hop and when that came into Fortnite – literally no words can even describe how I felt. Since then I watch all Fortnite events at all times on the Brazilian server.
KeepUpRadio: My most memorable moment was my first Fortnite Solos win! It was Chapter 3 Season 1 – I know hard to believe I've been playing since 2018 but only got my first Solos dub recently. I used to play super casually and always with friends! I was streaming when it happened and I was so excited I screamed my catchphrase, “CLOUT!!!!” at the top of my lungs while flailing my arms. I was genuinely so excited and happy that I got the Solos win! This clip ended up going viral on TikTok and now my viewers send me videos of them getting Fortnite wins and screaming “Clout!” too! So it was such a fun moment for me and I love when viewers share their winning moments with me as well!
ONE_shot_GURL: For me, it's not so much one special moment with Fortnite, it's more so the memory of all the awesome people that I met because of Fortnite. This one game has connected me to so many wonderful people and I'll forever be grateful for that!
