Inside Miner Tycoon 2’s win-win monetization model

For Blzn, founder and Lead Developer at Blzn Studios, shipping a hit Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) map was never the finish line—it’s the start of an ongoing project.

That project is Miner Tycoon 2, an incremental RPG-tycoon experience where players mine, battle bosses, and collect pets as they build up their strength.

From RP servers to UEFN

Blzn’s design instincts weren’t shaped by Fortnite first—they were shaped by running an online roleplay server years earlier.

“For as long as I can recall, game development has been my dream,” he says. “While I studied Computer Programming in college, my most valuable lessons came from ‘learning by doing,’ chasing the passion rather than just meeting requirements. My first real experience with UGC was owning and operating an RP server. I had to learn firsthand how to balance complex economies and build mechanics that kept a dedicated community coming back daily.”

When a friend recommended UEFN, Blzn saw a chance to bring those lessons to a new platform.

“I spent my early days in UEFN analyzing the Discovery tab. I immediately gravitated toward the Incremental RPG and Tycoon genres. It spoke to my love for progression systems, and I knew I could take those core loops to the next level,” he says.

Monetizing without a paywall

Sustaining a project with that many updates meant finding a business model that wouldn’t push away the community keeping it alive. That search led Blzn to UEFN’s In-Island Transactions system.

“Implementing in-island transactions has been a definitive turning point for our sustainability,” he explains. “My philosophy has always been to prioritize ‘Quality of Life’ enhancements and time-savers rather than locking core content behind a paywall. It’s vital that every player gets the full experience regardless of their spending power.”

Finding a middle ground that both respects the F2P roots of the Fortnite audience and provides meaningful value to those who want to support the game has landed well with the community. It’s also a philosophy that sits well with the way Blzn likes to work.

“From a business perspective, this shift provided immense peace of mind,” he says. “I’ve never been a ‘launch and forget’ developer—Miner Tycoon 1 saw 173 versions, and Miner Tycoon 2 is already at 68 versions since its October 2025 launch.”

In the past, that level of dedication to a single map could feel like a hurdle to growth compared to just pumping out new titles. But in-island transactions have enabled Blzn to align his business objective with his development style.

“It allows me to continue treating my maps as evolving live-service experiences for our daily players while knowing the studio’s growth is supported by the very community we are building for,” he says.

Designing the Rebirth Ticket

Striking that balance meant being careful about how new systems got layered onto a game that was already a finished entity.

“Since Miner Tycoon 2 was originally built as a complete, balanced experience before transactions were an option, I had to ensure any new systems didn’t disrupt that flow,” says Blzn. “Offering ‘Quality of Life’ boosts, like 2x damage or drop rates, actually increased long-term retention.”

That accelerated sense of progression created a stronger hook, keeping players in the map longer than they might have otherwise. One system put that philosophy into practice more than any other: the Rebirth Ticket.

“It’s a resource players earn for free by rebirthing, but we also offer it as a paid option for those who want to jump ahead,” he says. “Since the introduction of this transaction, I’ve leaned into adding more permanent upgrades, unique skills, and rare pets tied to these tickets.”

The result is a dual-purpose system: free-to-play players get a deeper “grind” to chase through rebirthing, while paying players get more value for the tickets they buy.

“It’s a design loop where every player wins, regardless of how they choose to play,” says Blzn.

Built to keep evolving

Miner Tycoon 2 shows how a live-service mindset and UEFN’s in-island transactions tools can turn a single map into a sustainable, ever-growing business. By treating updates and monetization as part of the same design problem, Blzn Studios built a game economy where free-to-play and paying fans both keep coming back.
