PARTY GOLF brings skill-based mini golf to Fortnite
When developer Weeplow set out to build PARTY GOLF, a competitive mini golf experience built in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), he had a clear goal in mind: creating a mini golf experience that feels satisfying to play across all platforms.
Supporting up to eight players, PARTY GOLF combines accessible gameplay with skill-based mechanics, delivering an experience that’s just as enjoyable with friends as it is when chasing a better score solo.
Here’s a look at the technical decisions that shaped the project.
Building a satisfying golf experience
From the beginning, Weeplow sought to make every shot feel rewarding. The focus wasn’t simply recreating mini golf inside Fortnite.
“We focused on responsive physics, clean shot feedback, and skill-based gameplay that works just as well in solo play as it does in a party setting,” says Weeplow.
Creating that sense of responsiveness meant every interaction, from aiming to putting, needed to feel consistent whether players were on console, PC, or mobile.
Achieving precise, readable gameplay required leaning on Fortnite’s existing physics systems while extending them with custom functionality.
“The gameplay builds on Fortnite’s physics system and combines custom ball behavior, collision handling, and Control Rig to fine-tune movement, orientation, and visual feedback,” he explains. “This approach allowed us to keep shots readable and movement smooth while maintaining the precision required for a skill-based mini golf experience.”
Designing courses with room to grow
At launch, PARTY GOLF features two handcrafted courses, each designed to offer its own unique challenges and layouts.
“Moving forward, we plan to expand the game with new courses, and introduce gameplay-affecting elements like sand, impulses, lava, and other mechanics that add depth and variety to each hole,” says Weeplow.
These new hazards, mechanics, and environments will keep the game fresh and encourage players to continually refine their strategies.
One of PARTY GOLF’s most impressive aspects is that it’s currently being developed by one person. This influenced every technical decision throughout development.
“PARTY GOLF is currently developed by a single developer, which meant building systems that were modular, scalable, and efficient from day one,” he says. “UEFN made it possible to iterate quickly and ship a polished multiplayer experience without a large team, while laying the groundwork to expand the team in the future as the project grows.”
Designing modular systems from the outset makes it easier to add new content over time—and also maintain a sustainable development workflow.
Custom UI, progression, and a long-term vision
Beyond gameplay, PARTY GOLF includes bespoke systems designed specifically for Fortnite players.
“The UI and progression systems were built using a combination of UMG and Verse, allowing us to design a custom store, cosmetics, and progression flow that feels native to Fortnite,” says Weeplow. “A strong focus was placed on clarity and usability, especially on mobile, while still giving PARTY GOLF its own visual identity.”
With strong technical foundations in place, PARTY GOLF is designed as a long-term experience.
“The plan is to continuously expand the game with new courses, cosmetics, and gameplay updates, keeping the experience fresh while gradually evolving it into a broader mini golf ecosystem inside Fortnite,” he explains.
Whether you’re competing with friends or perfecting your short game, PARTY GOLF offers all the fun of mini golf, no matter which platform you’re on.
