The Fortnite Team

Hey everyone!

Today is an exciting day for the future of Fortnite, one that will be jointly developed by Epic alongside independent creators and developers around the world.

Unreal Editor… for Fortnite!

The Unreal Editor is a key feature of Unreal Engine, Epic’s toolset used by professional game developers to make all kinds of amazing games that are playable on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, mobile devices, PC, and Mac.

Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) is a new PC application for designing, developing, and publishing games and experiences directly into Fortnite. Over time, UEFN will evolve to feature most of the same tools available in Unreal Engine. Today in the public beta, UEFN enables a wide variety of games and experiences ranging from highly stylized cel-shaded team combat to ultra-realistic sims, playable right inside the Fortnite you already have installed.

UEFN works side-by-side with Fortnite’s existing Creative toolset, and teams of creators can work together across PC and console to develop and test islands in real-time.

For an early glimpse at what’s possible using UEFN, check out Deserted: Domination, Forest Guardian, and The Space Inside in the Epic’s Picks Discover row in Fortnite. These are tech demos which show the new capabilities; stay tuned for full islands and game modes as creators learn to take advantage of the new tools.

Or start your creator journey by heading over to the Epic Developer Community website to learn more about UEFN, and how you can get started making your own games and experiences in Fortnite.

Upgrade! Creator Economy 2.0

To support the creators building and contributing to the overall success of Fortnite, today we have also launched Creator Economy 2.0 with engagement payouts to eligible island publishers, both creators and Epic.

Engagement payouts proportionally distribute 40% of the net revenue from Fortnite’s Item Shop and most real-money Fortnite purchases to all island publishers on a monthly basis. Payouts are based on what players enjoy in Fortnite and account for things like island popularity, engagement, and attracting new players.

Engagement payout funds are separate from Support-A-Creator, and are designed to reward island creators who publish content in Fortnite. We’ve removed the Support-A-Creator device from the game entirely, which means creators can focus on developing fun and engaging experiences without asking you to use their Creator Code. Every time you play your favorite island or game in Fortnite, you are supporting its creator monetarily, no code required!
