  • Friends and Teammates - your child can chat with players in their Epic friends list and platform friends list, and players on their team.

  • Friends Only - your child can chat only with players in their Epic friends list and platform friends list.

  • Nobody - chat is disabled for your child.

It’s important to check out the voice chat settings on the console your child is playing on as well. If you turn off Epic’s voice chat in Fortnite, your child may still be able to access voice chat using the chat system built into your console.

If your child is under 10 years old, the maximum voice and text chat permission will be “Friends Only.” When your child turns 10, you will be able to choose additional voice and text chat options.

If your child is under 13, the maximum voice and text chat permission will be “Friends & Teammates.” When your child turns 13, you will be able to choose additional voice and text chat options. Turning on voice chat also turns on voice reporting.

Learn more about these settings at the Epic Games Safety and Security Center.

Can I limit or manage what my child can purchase in Fortnite?

Yes, you can choose to require your Parental Controls PIN code to be entered to authorize real-money purchases in Fortnite. If your child indicates they are under the age of 13, a daily spending limit of $100 USD will be applied to their account. Any purchases above the daily spending limit will require your Parental Controls PIN to be entered to override the limit and complete a purchase.

How do Time Limit Controls work for Fortnite?

With Time Limit Controls, you can manage how much time your child spends in Fortnite and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). If you choose to enable this Parental Control, you can:

  • Limit the total amount of time your child can play per day.

  • Choose specific time windows when your child can play each day, and set time limits within that window.

  • Choose whether to allow your child to request more time as they approach the end of their time limit.

If you set up a time limit, your child will begin seeing on-screen notifications when they have 30 minutes left in Fortnite or UEFN. Once your child reaches their limit,  they will not be able to use Fortnite or UEFN until the next day or until a new window begins.

If you have allowed your child to request more time, and they have 30 minutes or less left in their window, your child can request more time from within Fortnite. Their request will send you an email with a link where you can add more time for that day if you choose.

You can also add more time (even if you haven’t enabled requests for more time) from inside Fortnite by selecting “Time Limits & Reports” from the main menu in the Sidebar and choosing “Add More Time.” You can choose this if your child has 30 minutes or less remaining. Once you input your Parental Controls PIN code, you can select the desired increment of time to add. Time granted will be effective immediately.

Can I control which games my child can access in Fortnite?

Yes, every experience in Fortnite has its own age rating, and you can choose to restrict your child’s access to experiences above a certain rating. Your Parental Controls PIN code will be required to unlock experiences for your child that are rated above your age-rating setting.

For example, if you set your rating to Everyone 10+, you will be required to enter your Parental Controls PIN to unlock Teen experiences.
