Epic’s Picks Update: Putting Originality, Creativity, and Innovation in the Spotlight in Fortnite

Update: October 7, 2025

We’re expanding the list of prioritized themes and genres for the Epic’s Picks row in Discover, offering developers the ability to show off a wider variety of games.

Here are the new themes and genres we’re adding for this round, which will run until the end of December 2025:

  • Games featuring chaotic physics-based gameplay
  • Sports or variety-based competitive experiences
  • Social and conversational games, including islands that encourage players to speak to each other or interact with NPCs

We'll also continue looking for islands in genres and devices that we previously highlighted below.

(July 15, 2025) We’re making changes to the Epic’s Picks row in Discover to elevate high-quality, innovative experiences that showcase what’s possible with Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) and Fortnite Creative. These changes to Epic’s Picks will be implemented starting July 16, 2025.

Noteworthy Changes:

  • Each week, Epic will highlight four islands in Epic’s Picks.
  • Islands in Epic’s Picks will have larger thumbnails in Discover and will autoplay trailers on hover.
  • If your island is in Epic’s Picks and reaches more than 4,000 CCU, it may appear in the Trending in Discover row and may appear in the Homebar for players until it reaches a certain number of impressions.
  • After seven days in Epic’s Picks, islands that reached more than 2,000 CCU will be recommended for promotion in the news in Fortnite, a.k.a. “MOTD.”

Introducing: Genre and Device Spotlights

Each quarter, our team will share specific genres or devices that we’ll look to feature in Epic’s Picks over the following six months. While we won’t limit featured islands exclusively to the specific genres and devices, we will prioritize them.

Genres and Devices for July to December 2025

For the next six months, we’re looking for:
  • Social Deduction / Social Survival Games
    • Islands that use new tools like Bubble Chat, the Disguise device, Voting Group device, Voting Options device, and the Multiplayer Skilled Interaction device to build innovative experiences in this genre.
  • Featured Device - Scene Graph (Beta)
    • Islands that push the limits of what Scene Graph can do!
  • Action RPG Maps
    • Islands containing unique quests and progression systems, action-driven class systems, and compelling narratives.
