FAQs - Voice and Text Reporting in Fortnite
You can use voice and text reporting in Fortnite to submit audio or text chat messages as evidence of suspected violations of our Community Rules. This helps us take action against players using voice or text chat to bully, harass, discriminate, or engage in other inappropriate behavior. You can also block and mute players you no longer wish to interact with.

Voice Reporting Frequently Asked Questions
(see below for text reporting FAQs)
How does voice reporting in Fortnite work?
When voice reporting is on, the last five minutes of voice chat audio are captured on a rolling basis. This means only the immediate last five minutes of audio is reportable. As new audio is captured, any previous audio that's more than five minutes old is automatically deleted. Voice chat audio is securely captured on your device — for example your gaming console or PC — not the Epic Games servers.
If you report a conversation, the voice chat audio captured from the last five minutes will be uploaded with it and sent to Epic moderators for review. Epic has no way of accessing any voice chat audio unless voice reporting is on and a participant submits a voice report.
How do I customize my voice reporting settings?
Players Under 18
Voice reporting is always on for voice chats that include players under 18. If you’re under 18 and do not wish to have your voice chat audio captured, you can mute yourself or turn voice chat off entirely by selecting “Off” in your voice chat settings.
If you’re a parent, you can manage your child’s voice chat permissions by logging into the Epic Account Portal and using Epic’s existing Parental Controls.
Players 18 and Over
If you’re 18 or over, you can customize your voice reporting preferences in the main Fortnite settings (“Communication” > “Voice Reporting” > Select “Always On” or “Off When Possible”).
After selecting “Always On,” voice reporting will be on in every channel you’re in.
After selecting “Off When Possible,” voice reporting will be off in parties formed among friends where all players have voice reporting “Off When Possible.” Voice reporting will be on if Party Channels include one or more players with voice reporting set to “Always On” or a player added through Looking for Party.
The “Off When Possible” option applies to Party Channels only. Voice reporting will always be on in all Game Channels, which are public, island-specific channels where you can chat with other players in the same experience.
How will I know if I’m participating in a voice chat conversation that has voice reporting on?
You can see if voice reporting is currently on or off in the Sidebar.
How do I report inappropriate conduct happening in voice chat?
Follow these steps to report a conversation while you’re in a Party or Game Channel with voice reporting on:
-
Open the Sidebar and navigate to the voice chat tab (if you’re in a match, you will be automatically directed to the voice chat tab)
-
Press the “Report Conversation” button
-
After the report loads on the next screen, press the “Submit” button
-
Close the screen and return to your game
For additional information on reporting inappropriate conduct in Fortnite, see this Help Center article.
If I don’t have voice reporting on, can I still report inappropriate conduct happening in voice chat?
You always have the ability to block, mute and report other players. However, if you’d like to include audio evidence in reports, voice reporting must be on in the chat conversation that you are participating in.
I selected “Off When Possible” in my voice reporting settings, but I still see “Voice Reporting On” in the Sidebar. Why is it still on?
Even if you selected “Off When Possible”, voice reporting will be on if party chats include one or more players with voice reporting set to “Always On”, or a player is added through Looking for Party. Voice reporting will also be on in all Game Channels, which are public, island-specific channels where you can chat with other players in the same experience.
If I’m over 18, how can I prevent my voice chat audio from being captured?
You can turn voice chat off entirely by selecting “Off” in your voice chat settings or you can mute yourself.
You can also select “Off When Possible” from your voice reporting settings, but voice reporting will only be off in parties formed among friends where all players have voice reporting “Off When Possible”.
How can I see if Epic has taken action based on a voice report that I submitted?
If you go to https://safety.epicgames.com/en-US/policies/reporting-misconduct/my-reports and log in to the same account that you used to submit a report, you can track the status of your report and any enforcement actions taken.
How will I know if another player has reported me for a suspected violation of Epic’s Community Rules? Will I be able to review my case and file an appeal?
Players are notified if they’ve been actioned by Epic based on a report. They are not notified at the time of report. If you’ve received an action against your account, we will send you an email to the address associated with your Epic account. This email will inform you of the Community Rules violation(s) you’ve been actioned for. The email will also include a link to a site where you can review your case. This is also where you will be able to file an appeal if you believe a mistake was made.
If you don’t have an email address associated with your Epic account, you will be notified in-game the next time you log in to play Fortnite.
How long will Epic have access to voice chat audio clips if a player decides to submit a voice report to Epic?
Audio clips submitted to Epic for review will be auto-deleted after 14 days or the duration of a sanction, whichever is longer. In the event of an appeal, retention may be extended for up to 14 days so the sanction decision can be reviewed. If Epic Games needs to retain an audio clip to comply with legal obligations, it will be retained for as long as legally required.
Is voice reporting available in Rocket League or Fall Guys?
No, voice reporting is only available in Fortnite at this time, with plans to launch in other Epic games in the future. You still have the ability to report inappropriate conduct in Rocket League and report inappropriate conduct in Fall Guys.
