How to Qualify for FNCS Tournaments

The Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) is Epic’s premier competitive circuit and the path to qualifying runs through Ranked Battle Royale.

While exact requirements change from season to season, some key factors stay consistent. Players must reach a minimum rank, meet account and security requirements, and compete in a series of qualifier rounds where top teams advance.

Because Epic updates FNCS formats and requirements regularly, check the official FNCS rules page for the current season’s criteria.

What Do You Need to Qualify for FNCS?

Depending on the tournament and season, players must meet a mix of competitive, account, and security requirements to qualify for FNCS. For instance, to play in FNCS Division Cups for the current season, requirements include:

  • Gold rank in Ranked Battle Royale (subject to change in future seasons)
  • Account level 350 or higher
  • 14 tournaments played in the last 180 days
  • Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) enabled on your account
  • Secure Boot, TPM, and IOMMU enabled on on your hardware
  • Must be age 13+ (parental permission required if under 18)

To compete in the FNCS Major, you’ll need to reach Division 1 in your region.

Average Qualification Path

To qualify for FNCS, you’ll need to:

  • Compete in the required team format (Duos, Trios, or Squads) for the season, ensuring all players meet eligibility requirements.
  • Participate in FNCS qualifier sessions during the scheduled tournament windows according to your region.
  • Earn points in each match through a mix of eliminations and placement.
  • Finish high enough on the qualifier leaderboard to advance to the next stage.
  • Compete in progressively more difficult competitions and maintain consistent performance across multiple matches.

How Do FNCS Qualifiers Work?

FNCS Open Qualifiers are the first stage of Fortnite top competitive tournaments, designed to filter the best teams from a large pool of eligible players.

Open Qualifiers feed into Semi-Finals or Heats, further narrowing the pool that competes in the Grand Finals. Teams earn points through a combination of placement and eliminations across multiple matches per session, rewarding both successful play and strategic survival. Consistency matters more than just a single strong game.

Team format (Duos, Trios, or Squads) varies by season. Check the current rules before forming your roster.

Point Distribution

Teams earn points based on two factors: placements and eliminations.

  • Placements are awarded for longer survival times and are worth major points. High placement in back-to-back games is important for performing well overall.
  • Eliminations provide smaller, consistent point gains anytime your team eliminates another player.

There is not a set number of FNCS points needed to qualify. Teams must earn enough points to rank near the top of the leaderboard for each session, which varies depending on competing teams’ performances.

Tips for Qualifying for FNCS

Qualifying for FNCS is about consistency and teamwork across multiple matches. Since advancement is based on leaderboard placement rather than a fixed score, the goal is to perform well every game, not just play extremely well in a single round.

Here are some tips for how to qualify for FNCS:

  1. Play for placement first, fights second. Most points come from surviving deep into matches. Take the fights you’re more likely to win vs. risky engagements.
  2. Master rotations and positioning. Good movement around the map and into safe zones can help you reach endgame, where you can earn more points.
  3. Communicate with your team. This is especially important in high-pressure or late-game situations where one decision can determine the match.
  4. Practice endgame scenarios. Get comfortable with stacked late circles since most points are earned later and this is where qualification is won or lost.
